Jean Ellen Lucas, 82 years, of Bryan, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2012 in her residence with her family at her side, under the care of  Allcaring Home Health, Hospital Hospice and John Ireland.  Jean was born April 13, 1930 in Kokomo, Indiana, the daughter of the late Ray and Lilly D. (George) Peters.  She was a 1949 graduate of Bryan High School.  Shortly after her graduation, Jean married Kenneth Carver, and that marriage ended in divorce.  On June 14, 1958, Jean married Robert L. Lucas in Angola, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on March 7, 2002.  Jean had worked at Morris Five & Dime, which her sister Gladys managed.  She also had worked at several area restaurants.  Most recently, Jean had worked at Al’s East End and also Par-T-Pak for 27 years, retiring in 2002.  She was a member of the Bryan VFW Post 2489 Ladies Auxiliary.  She formerly was a member of the Bryan Eagles Aerie #2233.  Jean enjoyed playing Bingo several times each week.  She also enjoyed assisting Bob at the Farmer’s Market.  

Surviving are her two daughters, Jill (Jerry) Manon and Candace Lucas, both of Bryan; three sons, Robert G. (Michelle) Lucas of Bryan, Jack (Nancy) Carver of Soldotna, Alaska, Gary Carver of New Mexico; three stepsons, James R. (Lilly) Lucas of Bryan, Tom (Peggy) Lucas of Bryan and Larry (Patricia) Lucas of Edgerton; grandchildren, Aaron (Sarah) Pelland of Sherwood, Billy Jean Pelland of Bryan, Toshia Miller of Bryan, Joseph Lucas of Bryan, Jason Manon of Bryan, Travis Manon of Bryan, Michelle (Eric) Destatte of Weston, Ohio, Ashley Carver of Texas, Cody Carver of Alaska along with several step-grandchildren.  She had one great grandchild born on her late husband Robert Lucas’ birthday, Jordan Marie Pelland of Sherwood.  Her other great-grandchildren include Kristen and Kameron Canfield, Eric, Brandon and Aubree Destatte, Zachary, Tyler and Jahydon Manon and several step-great-grandchildren.  Jean is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Violet Burch of Bryan and Beverly Peters of Kokomo, Indiana.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, sisters, Gladys Coil, Betty Rogers, Roxie Cohee; brothers, Denny, Ralph, Ernie, Donald and Ted Peters.  She also had eight other siblings who died in infancy.

Graveside services for Jean Ellen Lucas will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 in Fountain Grove Cemetery with Bill Priest officiating.  The VFW Post 2489 Ladies Auxiliary will conduct services at graveside also.  There will not be any visitation.  Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 North Lynn Street, Bryan, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Bryan VFW Post 2489 Ladies Auxiliary.

Jean will always hold a special place in my heart. The way she would yell at the refs and umpires during any sporting event just to get them riled up always put a smile to my face. Thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time.

God Bless you and your family Jean You were a very good lady. May God comfort you in his arms. You will be missed by many. Candy you were an angel to your mom in her last yrs. of her life and I thank you for getting in touch with me.
