Obituary

Bonnie Jean Poper, 94, of Hicksville, Ohio passed away Sunday, March 2, 2025, in her home surrounded by her family. Bonnie was born January 18, 1931, in Woodburn, Indiana, daughter of the late Glen and Lula (Donat) Kees. She was a 1951 graduate of Hicksville High School. Bonnie married Ira Allen Poper on July 21, 1956, in Angola, Indiana and they were married for 46 years until Ira's passing on October 4, 2002. Bonnie was a devoted wife and mother, taking care of the home, farm and her family. She was a devoted member of First Church of Christ Hicksville, where she served as Deaconess, Librarian, and on Women's Council. Bonnie was a member of the Bryan VFW Post 2489-Ladies Auxiliary (Lifetime Member), All Together Club, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 248 (60 year member), Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at the Bargain Box until she was 90 years old. Bonnie enjoyed the monthly gathering of the Class of 1951 "Girls Club".  Bonnie loved her family and supported them in everything they did. She especially cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching their sporting events. In her younger years, she was an avid bowler.

Surviving are her four children, Rick (Tammy) Poper of Hicksville, Marquita Flanary of Hicksville, Holly (Tim) Gloor of Hicksville, and Sharis (Doug) Sweeney of Hicksville; eight grandchildren, Tennille (Keith) Evers, Amber (Mark) Keeley, Jessica (Kevin) Scheele, Tanner (Ashley) Gloor, Tia (Josh) Putt, Randy (Cindy) VanScoder, Ashley (Dave) Adams, and Reva (Steven) Kemerer; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Friend and Linda (Jim) Bloir; brother, Nub Kees. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ira Poper; son-in-law, Mark Flanary; sister, Frances Meek; brother-in-law, Jim Friend; sister-in-law, Anna Mae Kees.

Visitation for Bonnie will be held Wednesday, March 5, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. -6:45 p.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 N. Main Street, Hicksville with an Order of Eastern Star Service beginning at 6:45 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 6, 2025, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at First Church of Christ Hicksville, 118 N. Main Street, Hicksville with Celebrant Patricia Peter officiating. Interment will follow at Six Corners Cemetery, Hicksville. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Thursday, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The family request memorial contributions be directed to First Church of Christ Hicksville or Crippled Children and Adult Society.
