Charles "Chuck" Edward Powell, 57, of Sherwood, Ohio passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice Center, Defiance, Ohio, surrounded by his family. Chuck was born January 16, 1967, in Bryan, Ohio, son of Charles E. Powell and Claudia M. Schroeder. He was a 1985 graduate of Fairview High School. Immediately following graduation, Chuck enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Persian Gulf War until his honorable discharge. He then continued his education at Cheyenne Aero Tech. Chuck worked at Lockheed Martin, Marietta, Georgia as a 606 Senior Structures Assembly and previously as an Integral Wing Tank Sealer. He was member of St. John Lutheran Church. Chuck was a lifetime member of Sherwood VFW Post 5665. In his free time, he enjoyed tinkering in the garage, playing guitar and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers Fan. Above all, Chuck enjoyed spending time with his family and loved his cat, Tubbs.
Surviving are his three children, Jeffrey (Karin) Kaspar of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Krystal Powell of Fitchburg, Wisconsin, and Dezirae Powell of Montpelier, Ohio; one granddaughter on the way; father, Charles Powell of Ney, Ohio; mother, Claudia Schroeder of Sherwood, Ohio; three siblings, Kathy (Jeff) Holtsberry of Mark Center, Ohio, Karen (Randy) Notestine of Aberdeen, North Carolina, and Russell Powell of Bryan, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his stepmom, Linda "Susie" Powell and stepdad, Ed Sowers.
Visitation for Chuck will be held Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood, Ohio. Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 22, 2024, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 9088 Openlander Road, Sherwood, Ohio, with Pastor Eric Moquin Officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the service at Sherwood Cemetery with Military Rites accorded by combined honor guard Sherwood VFW Post 5665, Farmer American Legion Post 137, Hicksville American Legion Post 223.
