Obituary

Charles E. Polter, 85, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Friday, February 16, 2024, at Brookview Healthcare Center, Defiance, Ohio.  Charles was born May 7, 1938, in Hicksville, Ohio, son of the late Earl and Wilimina (Doctor) Polter.  He was a 1956 graduate of Mark Center High School.  Charles married Karen M. Coy on November 24, 1957, in Mark Center, and she preceded him in death on September 2, 2020.  In addition to farming with his father-in-law, Roger Coy, he was a tool & die maker for most of his career, retiring after 40 years from Wilco Tool & Die.  He also previously worked at the Ohio Art Company. Charles and Karen were faithful members of Mark Center United Methodist Church, and he also belonged to the Defiance County Sheriff's Posse and the National Rifle Association.  He enjoyed farming, and when he had time, trap shooting, hunting, and gardening. Most of all, Charles cherished spending time with his family.

Surviving is his son, Dennis (Donna) Polter of Sherwood, Ohio; three grandchildren, Stacy Polter of Napoleon, Ohio, Sarah (Mike) Frank of Pemberville, Ohio, and Emily (Ein) DeWitt of Hicksville; eight great-grandchildren, Braylon Polter, Emma Polter, Cameron Frank, Cooper Frank, Jameson Smith, Cadan DeWitt, Walker DeWitt, and Sadie DeWitt; and three siblings, Richard (Carma) Polter of Sherwood, Ohio, Earl DeWayne Polter of Ney, Ohio, and Deb (Dave) Leavell of North Carolina.  Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Karen; son, Steven Polter; nephew, Darrin Polter; and sister-in-law, Sharon Polter.

Visitation for Charles will be held Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio, with funeral services beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Charles Schmunk officiating. Interment will follow at Farmer Cemetery.
