February 5, 1934 – September 17, 2024
Glen L. Gorrell, 90, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Vancrest of Hicksville. Glen was born February 5, 1934, in Harlan, Indiana, son of the late Doy and Daisey (Haifley) Gorrell. He married Ione E. Gustin on June 29, 1952, in Harlan, Indiana. Glen was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Fort Wayne, Indiana, for over 38 years, retiring in 1990. After retiring from USPS, Glen and Ione sold the family farm and moved to Hicksville. He was a member of Sovereign Redeemer Church in Harlan, formerly known as Pathway Christian Church. Glen enjoyed harness racing for many years and was a member of the Horseman's Association. He also enjoyed his time at the lake, water skiing, fishing and hosting fish fries with family and friends.
Surviving is his wife, Ione of Hicksville; five children, Rodney (Cindy) Gorrell of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Brent (Connie) Gorrell of Sweetser, Indiana, Pamela (Kevin) Hirsch of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Valerie (Blaine) Messmann of Mitchell, Indiana, and Lisa (Michael) Theurer of St. Joe, Indiana; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. Glen was preceded in death by his parents; four grandsons, Michael Gorrell, Nicholas Gorrell, Aaron Gaunt, and Rob Gaunt; a great-granddaughter, Alex; and seven siblings, Irma Poisel, Harry Gorrell, Mabel Shoup, Elsie Wappes, Lela Diltz, Stanley Gorrell, and Alice Rothermel.
Visitation for Glen L. Gorrell will be held Monday, September 23, 2024, from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. at Sovereign Redeemer Church, 12732 Spencerville Road, Harlan, Indiana 46743. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 P.M. in the church with Pastor Eddie Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in Scipio Cemetery, Harlan.
