"Doc" Wasson
August 8, 1942 – March 15, 2025
James R. "Doc" Wasson, 82, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Doc was born August 8, 1942, in St. Joe, Indiana, son of the late Russell "Buzz" and Garnet (Cook) Wasson. He attended school in St. Joe, Indiana, before moving to Hicksville. Doc enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving until his honorable discharge in 1961. He married Donna J. Gipple on August 10, 1968, in Auburn, Indiana, and she survives. Doc worked maintenance at Johns Manville for over 41 years, earning his nickname from his special group of friends. After retiring in 2014, he worked as a driver for APT Manufacturing Solutions. Doc was a member of Empower Church, and a former member of the Hicksville Eagles Aerie #2556 and volunteer with the Huber Opera House & Civic Center. Doc enjoyed camping at the Funny Farm Campground in Pioneer, Ohio, with Donna for many years. More recently, he enjoyed watching Western movies and playing solitaire. Above all, Doc loved his wife and family and was always thankful for time spent with them.
Surviving is his wife, Donna Wasson of Hicksville; two children, Theresa (Anthony) Frigo of Hicksville and James Wasson Jr. of Hicksville; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Gary (Linda) Wasson, Don Wasson, Robert Wasson and Gene Wasson; and two sisters, Kathy Lelaney and Geneva Hefty. Doc was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jerry Wasson.
Visitation for James R. "Doc" Wasson will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 12:00 Noon - 1:00 P.M. at Empower Church, 9228 Hicksville Edgerton Road, Hicksville, Ohio 43526. Funeral services will immediately follow in the church beginning at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Jay Scott officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville, where Military Rites will be accorded by the combined Honor Guard from the Hicksville American Legion Post 223, Sherwood VFW Post 5665 and the Farmer American Legion Post 137. Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio 43526.
