James "Scott" Sowles, 55 years, of Hicksville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Vancrest of Hicksville, with his siblings at side. Scott was born October 22, 1965, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of the late George Clarence and Kathryn (Oakley) Sowles, Jr. He was a 1983 graduate of Woodland High School, Woodburn, Indiana. He was an Army veteran, discharged in 1994. Scott was employed by Spec Temp in Antwerp, Ohio. He enjoyed watching Military movies, listening to music and hanging out with his family and friends.

He is survived by five siblings, Robert (Jenny) Monhollen of Payne, Ohio, George (Diane) Sowles, of New Haven, Indiana, Stephen (Melanie) Sowles of Fort Wayne, Indiana, David (Sammy) Sowles of San Francisco, California and Monica (Scott) Bertwell of Cecil, Ohio; stepmother, Patricia Borgwardt of Woodburn, Indiana; four stepsiblings, Paul Cook, Alan Cook, Steve Cook and Kathlene Derck. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Constance Miller and one brother, Kevin Sowles.

There will be no visitation or services at this time. Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
