Joan Y. Evans, 93 years of Hicksville, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana, surrounded by her family. Joan was born January 26, 1932, in St. Joe, Indiana, the daughter of the late Charles and Mildred (Gee) Curie. She was a 1950 graduate of St. Joe High School, St. Joe, Indiana. She continued her education at Cincinnati Bible Seminary and St. Francis College. She married Robert E. "Bob" Evans on January 29, 1955, at Coburn Corners Church of Christ, St. Joe, Indiana, and he survives. Joan was a homemaker for many years, prior to being employed at North American Van Lines. She also worked as a substitute teacher and was the church secretary at the First Church of Christ in Hicksville. She was a devoted member of the Hicksville Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School, Junior Church and was active in the Women's Council and served as the church financial secretary. She was also a member of the Northwest Ohio Toy Club, Farm Bureau. She enjoyed sewing, making clothing for her girls, and mending the boys' clothing. She also tended to her garden, canning the produce each summer. She was quite the baker, and her cookie jar was never empty. She never made less than six dozen cookies.

Surviving is her husband of 70 years, Robert E. "Bob" of Hicksville; six children, John Evans, of Hicksville, Mark (Lisa) Evans, of Pittsboro, North Carolina, Tom (Thi) Evans, of Austin, Texas, Steve (Teresa) Evans, of Hicksville, Lois (Nicholas) Gollmer of Merritt Island, Florida, and Ruth (Luke) Davis of  Nashport, Ohio.  12 grandchildren, two great-granddaughters; two siblings, Janet Jackson of Warren, Indiana and Bob (Cindy) Jarrett of St. Joe, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Leonard Jarrett; grandson, Zachery Evans; two brothers, Harold Curie and Carlton Curie.

Visitation for Joan Y. Evans will be held Saturday, January 24, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the Hicksville First Church of Christ, 118 North Main Street, Hicksville, where Funeral Services will follow immediately at 12:00 noon, Saturday with Pastor Eric Bass, officiating. Interment will follow in Six Corners Cemetery, Hicksville.
