Obituary

Joan Sanxter, 95, of Van Buren, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Heritage Pointe of Warren in Warren, Indiana. Joan was born on August 17, 1930, in St. Joe, Indiana, to the late Lamont and Mabel (Beuchat) Likes. She graduated from Butler High School in 1948. In 1967, she married Edward Sanxter, and together they shared 29 years of marriage. Joan worked at General Electric, where she served as a supervisor for 10 years. She was a faithful member of Cornerstone Church of Hamilton, formerly Hamilton United Methodist Church. Joan had a passion for working with her hands and expressing her creativity. She was an avid quilter, creating quilts for her family and friends. Her talents extended to oil painting and. she took pride in basket making. In addition to her artistic interests, Joan cherished time spent with her family. She especially enjoyed going on motorcycle rides with her daughter, Yvonda.

Surviving is her daughter, Yvonda Robinett of Van Buren, Indiana; granddaughter, Shannon (Rob) Clingaman of Peru, Indiana; grandson, Jimmy Cates of Nachogdoches, Texas; three great-grandsons, Aaron Hartman, Austin Hartman, and Aric McCann; four great-great-grandchildren, Evelyn Hartman, Lillie Hartman, Leah Hartman, and Jase Hartman; several nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Sanxter; daughter, Cynthia K. Bridges; four siblings, Glen Likes, Cecil Likes, Mary Zimmerman, and Alvin Likes.

Visitation for Joan will be held Friday, April 24, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Cornerstone Church of Hamilton, 7780 S. Wayne Street, Hamilton, Indiana, followed by a memorial service celebrating Joan's life will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the church with Pastors Rick Stiver and Jerry Burghduff officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton Cemetery, Hamilton, Indiana. Services are in care the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, Hamilton.
