John W. Hootman, 82, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Monday, January 17, 2022, at Vancrest of Hicksville.  He was born March 10, 1939, in Hicksville, Ohio, son of the late Omer and Zelda (Dorsey) Hootman.  John married Joanne Leffew in September of 1961, in Hicksville, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on April 21, 2021.  He worked as a Senior Systems Analyst for IBM, taught computer sciences at multiple universities, and also worked as consultant for Cabelas, Bank of America, and many other businesses.  In his free time, John enjoyed collecting cars and traveling.

John is survived by his two children, Jason Hootman of Roanoke, Indiana, and Page (Brandon) Thrasher of Fort Wayne, Indiana; three grandchildren, Cassandra Blue, Nathan Hornish, and Jonathan Hornish; and four great-grandchildren.  John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joanne Hootman; and one sister, Joyce Osborn.

To honor John's wishes, no visitation or services will be held at this time.  Arrangements are under the care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio 43526.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be directed to the American Cancer Society, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
