John W. Marts, Sr., 65, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Friday, October 14, 2022, in his residence with his family by his side. John was born May 27, 1957, in Hicksville, Ohio, son of the late Tom Marts, Sr. and Lois Schooley. He attended Hicksville Exempted Village Schools, and then served in the U.S. Army. John was a semi-truck driver, working for FAB Trucking for a majority of his career. In his free time, he enjoyed helping his brother with his harness racing team, Tom Marts, Jr. Stable, which often raced at Raceway Park in Toledo. Known as a Mr. Fix-It, John could be found tinkering with motors, or using his carpentry skills building furniture.

John is survived by his four children, Tabitha Wroblewski of Hicksville, Ohio, John W. (Kelly Keuneke-Marts), Marts, Jr. of Auburn, Indiana, Kimberly (Stuart) Rufner of Waterloo, Indiana, and Rachel (Jacob Mason) Marts of Kendallville, Indiana; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three siblings, Tom (Kim) "Tony" Marts of Toledo, Ohio, Bob Wheeler, and Richard Wheeler.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A gathering of family and friends for John W. Marts, Sr. will be held Friday, October 21, 2022, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home with Elara Caring Hospice Chaplin Rev. Matthew Every officiating. Interment will be private.
