Obituary

John A. Meyer, 79, of Antwerp, Ohio, died peacefully Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at his son's home in Cecil, Ohio, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on August 7, 1934 in Antwerp, Ohio, the son of the late Francis and Madonna (Trembley) Meyer.

John was a 1952 graduate of Antwerp High School, Antwerp, Ohio.

On January 28, 1967, John was united in marriage to Catherine Bott and she preceded him in death on February 8, 2011.

John served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1955 to 1959.

John retired from Navistar (International Harvester)in 1999. While working full time he took night classes at IIT in Ft. Wayne and also farmed.

He was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hicksville, Ohio, where he was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of a men's bowling league, loved to fish and spend time with his grandkids.

John is survived by two daughters- Sara (Todd) Green of Hicksville, Cheryl (Steve) Pomesky of Waynesburg, Ohio; a son- Mike (Tomi) Meyer of Cecil, Ohio; grandkids- Brian, Jason and Brandon Green, Isabella and Isaac Meyer, Emily, Alex and Elizabeth Pomesky; sisters- Irene Mascazine of Mansfield, Ohio, Mary Stump of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Joan Miller of Hurst, Texas; brothers- Phil Meyer and Jerry Meyer of Hicksville, and Basil Meyer of Bluffton, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by a grandson Lucas and a brother Paul.

A Mass of Christian Burial for John will be Saturday at 10:30 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Hicksville with Father Dave Cirata officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 and a rosary at 8:00, at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville.

Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville.

Memorials may be made to St. Michael's Catholic Church or CHP of Paulding County.
