Joyce J. Smith, 80, of Defiance, Ohio, passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Bryan Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Joyce was born June 23, 1943, in Smicksburg, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Clyde and Mable (Gagagen) Reithmiller. She was a graduate of Dayton High School. Joyce married Lyle E. Smith on April 17, 1965, in Smicksburg, Pennsylvania. She worked as a nurse's aide at Harborside Nursing Home, Bryan, for over 20 years. Along with her husband, Lyle, Joyce was an active member of Sherwood Methodist Church. In her free time, she enjoyed shopping and sewing.

Surviving is her husband, Lyle Smith of Defiance, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Delica Smith of Defiance, Ohio; four grandchildren, Loren Smith, Alistair Smith, Quention Smith, and Reyse Smith; two great-grandchildren, Lexi Smith and Arie Smith; brother, George Reithmiller of Smicksburg, Pennsylvania; many nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Lyle E. Smith, Jr., and Loren R. Smith; five siblings.

Visitation for Joyce will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. -12:00 noon at Sherwood Methodist Church, 512 N. Harrison Street, Sherwood. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon at the church with Pastor Boyd Shugert officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Cemetery.
