Obituary

Katelynn "Katie" A. Kepler, 32 of Logansport, Indiana, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024. Born on July 12, 1991, she grew up a real small-town girl in Hamilton, Indiana. Growing up, Katie loved being outdoors. She loved being on the lake, four-wheeling, snow-sledding, summer camps, and playing sports. Katie always wanted to be included with her older brothers. Katie was also a childhood cancer survivor. She had a rare kidney cancer, known as Wilms Tumor, primarily found in children. She was successfully treated at Riley Children's Hospital.

Katie attended Hamilton Community Schools and played many sports. Her favorites were volleyball, basketball, and track. She was quite the athlete.  Katie graduated in 2010, and she remained very close with all her childhood friends since.

Katie continued her education at Ball State University. She graduated in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in legal studies. Katie met the love of her life, Brooks, in 2011. They went to law school together at Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne. Katie graduated from law school in 2017, and then passed the bar exam on her first attempt.

Katie eventually relocated to Logansport with Brooks and started working as an attorney for the Indiana Department of Child Services in Layfette in March 2019. Katie was passionate about her job. She loved her co-workers and keeping children safe. She loved the comradery in the office and working together as a team. The work was tough, but the reward that followed kept her going.

Katie loved spending time with family and friends at the lake, playing bingo, cards, attending concerts, and spending time with her dog, Ruby. She loved Ruby very, very much. Sadly, Katie suffered from acute depression and bipolar disorder that robbed her of extended happiness and joy. It wasn't the Katie that we all know and love that ended her life.  It was the disease. Despite how hard Katie fought, the illness was too much to overcome. Katie's family hopes that her passing will help raise awareness for these mental health issues and encourage people to always take care of their loved ones.

Katie leaves behind the people who loved her most: Brad and Kim Kepler (parents), Branden and Ashley Kepler (brother), Justin and Meghan Kepler (brother), Aubree, Harper, Ford, and Savannah (nieces and nephew), her fiancé, Brooks Ledger, and her best friend of 25 years, Adam Cool. Preceding in Katie's death are her grandparents, Jerry, and Dolores Kepler of Hamilton.

Please join us in a day of remembrance to celebrate Katie's beautiful life and the joy she brought to all of us.
