"Casey" Shininger
October 16, 1939 – December 13, 2022
Kenneth L. "Casey" Shininger, 83, of Defiance, Ohio passed away surrounded by his family and friends on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at Vancrest of Payne. Kenneth was born October 16, 1939, in Sherwood, Ohio, son of the late Clarence and Clarice (Arend) Shininger. He was a 1957 graduate of Sherwood High School and attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois. Kenneth served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge. He married Jean E. Chester on September 2, 1967, in Payne, Ohio and she survives. Kenneth worked at Defiance Precision Products as an electrician and machinist until his retirement in 2000. He was a devoted member of St. Isidore Catholic Church-The Bend and the Knights of Columbus. Kenneth enjoyed working with his hands: collecting and restoring Cushman Scooters, working on Cub Cadets, and woodworking. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family and friends.
Surviving is his loving wife of 55 years, Jean Shininger of Defiance, Ohio; three children, Kimberly (Alan) Bowers of Hicksville, Ohio, Tiffany Hogan of Defiance, Ohio, and Tyler Hogan of Defiance, Ohio; five grandchildren, Jacob (Andriena) Bowers of Montpelier, Ohio, Riley Bowers and Gabriel Bowers of Hicksville, Ohio, Richie Hogan and Connor Hogan of Defiance, Ohio; three sisters, Mary Lou Speiser, Nancy (Ed) Herman, Wanda Sobota; two brothers, Leo (Mary) Shininger and Cyril (Judy) Shininger. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Shininger; sister, Helen Leininger.
Visitation for Kenneth will be held Friday, December 16, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood, Ohio where the rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. in the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Isidore Catholic Church- The Bend, 16428 Speaker Road, Sherwood, Ohio with Father Melwin D'Souza, and Father Anthony Batt Officiating. Interment will follow in St. Stephens Catholic Cemetery with miliary graveside rites performed by Sherwood VFW Post 5665.
