Kimberly J. Hurtig, age 69, of Sherwood, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Monday, May 4, 2026. Kim was born on February 22, 1957, in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Charles R. and Annamae B. (Bury) Keller. She graduated from Perrysburg High School in 1975. On October 8, 1977, she married James R. Hurtig, and together they shared 48 years of marriage. Kim dedicated 24 years of service to Central Local Schools, where she worked as a cafeteria helper until her retirement in 2023. She was also an active member of Sherwood Methodist Church, where she and her husband faithfully served as custodians. Family was at the heart of Kim’s life. She took great pride in being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, always supporting her family in their many activities. She especially cherished their annual camping trips. Kim had a deep love for nature and the outdoors and instilled that in her grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and bird watching.
She is survived by her husband, James Hurtig of Sherwood, Ohio; her four sons, Brian (Kim) Hurtig of Defiance, Ohio, Jeff (Lauren) Hurtig of Edgerton, Ohio, Chris (Vanessa) Hurtig of Edgerton, Ohio, and Brad (Brittni) Hurtig of Leo, Indiana; and her nine grandchildren, Silvia, Emma, Harper, Kora, Evelyn, Tucker, Tessa, Paxton, and Hank. She is also survived by three siblings, Kathy Keller, Kevin Keller, and Karen Keller. Kim was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Kenneth Keller.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Sherwood Methodist Church, 512 N. Harrison Street, Sherwood. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 noon at the church, with Pastor Boyd Shugert officiating. Burial will follow at Sherwood Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home.
