Obituary

LaVern Jay Mullett, 78, of Lima, Ohio and formerly of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2025, in his home with his daughter and son-in-law by his side. Vern was born on February 1, 1947, in Hicksville, Ohio, son of the late Elmer and Clara (Miller) Mullett. He graduated from Bethany Christian High School, Goshen, Indiana in 1965. Vern married Sue Ellen Kinzer on August 9, 1970, in Hicksville, OH. Sue passed away unexpectedly on September 24, 1988. A hardworking and dedicated man, Vern provided quality drywall services for over 40 years and was the owner of Vern's Dry Wall Service. At different times throughout his life, he also worked in manufacturing/assembly at Dotco and Doler in Hicksville, Ohio and at Eaton in Van Wert, Ohio.

Vern's faith was a guiding factor throughout his life. He attended the First Church of Christ with his family in Hicksville and later joined Central Ministries in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he enjoyed his church family and fellowship.

Vern loved animals, especially Shetland Sheepdogs and cats. He had a knack for gardening and landscaping, and his flower beds were beautiful! He also had a passion for muscle cars and enjoyed attending car shows. He was an avid Indiana Hoosier basketball and football fan. Above all, Vern loved spending time with his daughter and son-in-law. He also truly enjoyed visiting with family and friends, always welcoming good conversation and time together.

Surviving is his daughter, Anji (Brad) Thiess of Lima, Ohio; special friend, Rosa VanGundy; two siblings, Mary (Elmer) Stutzman and Kenneth (Sheril) Mullett; sister-in-law, Joan Mullett; and many nieces and nephews. Vern was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sue Ellen; and brother, Merle Mullett.
