Norman Joseph Kinsey, 87 years of Spencerville, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday, June 26, 2025, in his residence. Norm was born July 22, 1937, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the son of the late Maurice Dale and Lydia Elizabeth (Nusbaum) Kinsey. He was a 1955 graduate of Harlan High School and was a member of the Allen County Basketball Tournament Team. He served his country for six years in the United States Army and was called back to service where he served in the Air Force for an additional year. He married Norene Mae Bauman on August 23, 1958, in Grabill, Indiana, and she survives. A lifelong farmer, Norm was an accomplished Drywall Finisher, working for several different companies until he formed his own company. He attended Gospel Light Tabernacle where he served on the Church Board and taught Sunday School. He also served on the Hicksville Grain Board and the DeKalb Eastern School Board. Norm enjoyed hunting, fishing, in his younger years, playing basketball and softball. He was an avid reader and enjoyed singing in a quartet with his brother and sisters.
Surviving is his wife, Norene; three children, Sheryl (Steven) Stark of Hicksville, Ohio, David ( Gretchen) Kinsey of Spencerville, Indiana, and Sharon Kinsey of Spencerville, Indiana; five grandchildren, Jared Stark, Kimberly (Timothy) Spiess, Ryan (Rebecca) Stark, Katelyn Kinsey and Sophia Kinsey; seven great-grandchildren, Levi, Elias, Faith, Olivia, Micah, Joel and David; one brother, Morris (Gail) Kinsey of New Hampshire. He was preceded in death by his parents, one great-grandson, Ezra Stark; the sisters and brothers-in-law, Margaret (Lewis) Miller, Doris (Robert) Smead and Harriet (Cletus) Voirol; two brothers, Lawrence (Nancy) Kinsey and infant Loren Kinsey.
Visitation for Norman Joseph Kinsey will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2025, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville, Ohio. Visitation will continue Wednesday, July 2, 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with his son-in-law, Pastor Steven Stark officiating. Interment will follow in Scipio Cemetery, Harlan, Indiana.
