Obituary

Norman E. Meyer, 97, of Hicksville, Ohio, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Norm was born on May 11, 1928, in Antwerp, Ohio, to the late Edward and Mary (Zuber) Meyer.  He attended Antwerp High School and then went to work helping his dad on the family farm.  Norm proudly served his country first with the United States Army National Guard, and then with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, reaching the rank of Corporal with the 151st Medical Ambulance while stationed in Würzburg, Germany.  Norm married Marcelene M. "Marci" Malcuit on September 12, 1953, in Payne, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on June 3, 2011.  He worked as a truck driver for Irving Ready Mix for over 38 years, having retired and rehired going right back to work with the company.  Norm was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Hicksville.  Over the years, he enjoyed farming, flying his airplane, collecting antiques, working on his 1930 Model A Ford Coupe, building wagons and tinkering on small engines.  Norm did not know a stranger, and was known as a friend to many.

Surviving is his son, Brett M. Meyer of Hicksville; special friend and caregiver, Nancy (Tom) Cole of Auburn, Indiana; two grandsons, Mark E. Meyer, Jr. of Edgerton, Ohio, and Ryan (Toni) Harmon of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Rama Sarazin of Sterling Heights, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.  Norm was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 57 years, Marci; one son, Mark E. Meyer, Sr.; two brothers, Virgil Meyer and Robert Meyer; and two sisters; Margaret Hissong and Mary Lou Slusher.

Visitation for Norman E. Meyer will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2025, from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 Noon at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville.  Funeral Services for Norm will immediately follow in the funeral home beginning at 12:00 Noon with Father Dan Borgelt officiating.  Interment will take place at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, November 21, 2025, in Forest Home Cemetery, Hicksville, where Military Rites will be accorded by the combined honor detail from the Hicksville American Legion Post 223, Farmer American Legion Post 137, and Sherwood VFW Post 5665.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to St. Michael Catholic Church, or to the Crippled Children & Adult Society.
