Peter J. "Pete" Mondron, 81, of Cooney, Ohio, passed away in his home after a brief illness, on February 6, 2026.

Born December 1, 1944 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio to Christine S. and Romaine E. "Big Pete" Mondron, Pete graduated from Mt. Vernon high school and then attended Kenyon College graduating with a degree in chemistry in 1966. He earned an MS in Chemistry from the University of Notre Dame in 1971.

Pete used his chemistry degrees working many years for PPG Industries in Circleville, Ohio. He ended his career in chemistry as a teacher. First at Edon High School, and later at Trine University.

Pete loved gardening and grew various fruit trees, vegetables, and flowers. For several years he operated a hobby business hybridizing and selling daylilies. He enjoyed watching all sports, but was a particular fan of hockey. Pete's great passion was opera. He owned an extensive record collection and regularly watched the live and recorded broadcasts of The Metropolitan Opera productions.

Pete is survived by Sally's brothers and their families, Steven (Cherie) Culler of Alpharetta, GA; Scott (Susan Estill) Culler of Burnsville, MN. Nieces Corey (Bryan) Yag, Rebecca (Nate) Trower, Chloe Culler and Katrina Culler. And most recently he welcomed a grand niece (Charlotte) and nephew (William) Trower. We, along with his neighbors and friends, will all miss Uncle Pete.

Pete and Sally were both lovers of pets. Pete was recently predeceased by his faithful companion yellow Labrador retriever, Mandy. He was survived by his beautiful Maine Coon cat, Crystal.
