Obituary

Vanita L. Street, 91 years of Hicksville, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2026, at Vancrest of Hicksville. Vanita was born November 14, 1934, in Hicksville, Ohio, the daughter of the late Roscoe and Verda (Elliott) Etchen. She was a 1952 graduate of Hicksville High School. She married Harry E. Street on June 16, 1957, in Hicksville, and he preceded her in death on February 7, 2019. Vanita worked for Cline’s Grocery for 14 years, retiring in 2013. Prior to this, Vanita worked as a Teller at the Hicksville Bank for 24 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Hicksville, where she served as Trustee’s Treasurer. She was also a member of the Hicksville American Legion Post 223 Ladies Auxiliary. Vanita worked as a Poll worker for Defiance County for many years. Vanita enjoyed embroidery; reading and playing piano and following the activities of her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are her four children, Valinda (Bryant) Hinsch of Hicksville, Sallie Coblentz, of Hicksville, Pastor Patrick (Jean) Street of East Moline, Illinois, and Melodie (Steve) Talbott of Hicksville; seven grandchildren, Nicholas (Rachel) Hinsch, Cassie (Jake) Phillips, Abbie (Davey) Schafer, Lucas (Cynthia) Street, Michael Street, Matthew Street and Austin (Brittany) Talbott; 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry; granddaughter, Nellie Street; one sister, Alice Jean McCormick; infant twin sister and brother, Louise and Louis Etchen

Visitation for Vanita Street will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 706 North Main Street, Hicksville. Funeral services will follow immediately at Noon on Wednesday in the funeral home with her son, Pastor Patrick Street, officiating. Interment will follow in Six Corners Cemetery, Hicksville.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be directed to the Community Health Professionals Hospice.
