Wayne J. Bowers, age 91, of Sherwood, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Vancrest of Hicksville. Wayne was born April 8, 1934, in Payne, the son of the late Joe Bowers and Helen Vachon Bowers. He was a 1952 graduate of Payne High School. Wayne proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from January 6, 1954, until his honorable discharge on December 17, 1956. He married Sarah L. Dawson in 1967 at Russells Point. She preceded him in death on November 9, 2022. Wayne dedicated 40 years of employment to Johns Manville. He was a faithful member of St. Isidore's Catholic Church - The Bend, Sherwood. Wayne enjoyed fishing, riding motorcycles and bicycles, and found peace in tending to his yard and mowing the grass.

He is survived by his son, Alan (Kimberly) Bowers of Hicksville; three grandchildren, Jacob (Andriena) Bowers of Defiance, Riley Bowers of Hicksville, and Gabriel Bowers of Hicksville; brother, Ron (Donna) Bowers; sister, Joyce Ann Niemeyer. He was preceded in death by his parents wife, Sarah Bowers; four brothers; five sisters.

Visitation for Wayne will be held Monday, March 2, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 230 East Elm Street, Sherwood. A graveside service will follow beginning at 12:00 noon at St. Stephen's Catholic Cemetery, with Father Melwin Dsouza officiating with military rites presented by the USMC Honor Guard, Sherwood VFW Post 5665, Farmer American Legion Post 137, and Hicksville American Legion Post 223.
