Obituary

William H. “Bill” Garrett, 84, of Celina, Ohio, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Briarwood Village in Coldwater, Ohio. Bill was born on March 13, 1942, in Manchester, Kentucky, to the late Robert and Versie (Hensley) Garrett. He graduated from Hamilton High School and then honorably served in the United States Navy. Bill married Vickie S. Stokes in 1981 in Hamilton, Ohio, and she survives. Upon returning from his time in the U.S. Navy, he started as a line worker with GTE, and retired as an engineer after a full career with the company. Bill was involved in multiple Masonic groups, including the Bryan Masonic Lodge 215 and the Celina Masonic Lodge 241, receiving the highest rank in several groups. Among his many Masonic honors, he was coronated a 33rd Degree Mason (for his service to the Valley of Toledo, A.A.S.R.), knighted a Knight York Cross of Honour (K.Y.C.H.) by Ohio Priory #18, and received the Order of the Purple Cross through York Rite Sovereign College of North America. Bill was well loved and respected by all Masons but stepped away from his duties in more recent years to lovingly care for his wife. He also enjoyed spending time restoring his 1949 Pontiac and going to car shows.

Surviving is his wife, Vickie Garrett of Celina; son, Greg (Darlene) Garrett of Lorain, Ohio; daughter, Jennifer (Matt) Wieland of Lakeside Marblehead; five grandchildren, Joshua (Dee Dee) Long, Kelsie (Kirk) Yost, Kirsten (Ryan) Unger, David Garrett and Hannah Wieland; three great-grandchildren; and two siblings, Joyce Garrett-Sandlin of Hamilton, Ohio, and Retha Pennington of Fairfield, Ohio. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; son, William Allen Garrett; and three siblings, Betty Ricamore, Bobby Gallo and Lee Garrett.

Visitation for William H. “Bill” Garrett will be held Monday, June 15, 2026, from 10:00 A.M. – 12:00 Noon at Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, 206 N. Lynn Street, Bryan, Ohio 43056.
